FAQ’s

Hey Jeff and Jill, I was wondering…

1. What’s the weather going to be like?

Unpredictable.  The weather should  be beautiful in the 70’s during the day and down in the 40’s at night…but this is the high desert of West Texas. It might be windy, it might be snowing, it might be blazing hot. It’ll definitely be dusty, so bring your boots.

2. What should I bring?

Bring layers and be prepared for sunny days and chilly nights. We would also recommend closed-toe shoes – we’ll have transportation for the events, but the terrain can be rocky, spiky and, yes, dusty. Other items to consider bringing is sunscreen, swimsuit, hat, hiking shoes, flashlight, camera, your party pants…

3. Are there any “town rules” to be aware of?

There will most likely be a burn ban in effect – this region is extremely susceptible to wildfire, so please take care with any open flames.

Town curfew means no public drinking past midnight on Fridays and past 1am on Saturdays.

4. Should I be worried about the authorities?

Marfa is a small community and, as an outsider, it’s quite possible to encounter the long arm of the law. On our first trip, we were pulled over everyday for not having a front license plate, receiving 4 written warnings in 4 days.  Please go the speed limit, use your turn signals and be polite when driving in the region.

In addition to the Texas State Patrol, the U.S. Border Patrol has a headquarters in Marfa and a checkpoint about a mile south of town – if headed south, you will be stopped by Border Patrol with a K-9 unit and you can be subject to a vehicle search.
Please leave anything illegal at home.
